REACh for customers

Dear Customer,

We would like to inform you that Akzo Nobel Chemicals and its subsidiaries are well aware of the REACh (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and restriction of Chemicals) regulation. We intend to comply fully with this regulation as well as its projected timetables for pre-registration and registration.

Our products with the brand name Thioplastâ„¢ are polymers. Title II (Registration) and VI (Evaluation) of the REACh regulation do not apply for polymers. Nevertheless, it is obligated to register monomers. As producer of these monomers we intend to pre-register these and we will register these monomers before the 1st of December 2010.

The regulation in its present form remains complex and will have significant impacts on all manufacturers, importers and downstream users in the European Union and require their joint collaboration across all supply chains.

Akzo Nobel Functional Chemicals GmbH & Co. KG is committed to meeting all legal and moral obligations under REACh. As a leading manufacturer of polysulfide polymers we are well under way with the process. Because important related technical details like guiding documents (RIPs) are still under development, we cannot fully assess the impact of REACh on our product portfolio.

However, we can reassure you that our polysulfide polymers and the monomers produced by us are well documented under current risk assessment procedures. Therefore we currently do not foresee any risk to our ability to maintain continuity for supply of these products in the future.

At this time we are not in a position to provide more detailed answers to your questions. However, as consequences of REACh and its technical guidance become clearer, we will be communicating further with you to gather the information that will be needed to ensure the compliance of our products in a timely manner.

In case of questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
