THIOPLAST™ are aliphatic, liquid, short-chain polysulfide polymers. These polymers, which contain highly reactive end groups, react to various curing agents leading to the formation of a macromolecular network. During this curing process, rubber-like polymers are formed at ambient temperature. These demonstrate excellent resistance to weathering, water, light, ozone, oils, fats, fuels, many chemicals, solvents, alkali, and diluted acids over a wide temperature range.
Akzo Nobel produces two product groups under the label THIOPLAST™: unmodified polysulfides (G-types) and epoxidized polysulfides (EPS types). Both have unique properties and can be used for a specific set of applications. Thioplast Chemicals also sells related products to the rubber industry.
